About Tom

I am drawn to photograph the sea and those who sail her.

Boats, Wind and Water are the palette - the people and boats who play with the wind and the sea, skimming and surfing across the surface competing to be the first across the finish line a sailboat and yacht racing regattas.

When my son started sailing small dinghies over twenty years ago, I made my first sailing photograph. My work grew from that inspiration into a body of work documenting regattas of dinghy’s to large yachts. The wind and sea the boats choreograph into a visual journey the world of yacht racing.

I  grew up sailing and surfing the ocean off Newport Beach, California. Boating has always been a part of my life whether it’s,  passaging the coast of California, the Sacramento delta or cruising with my wife and son in Newport Harbor on our Boston Whaler.

I studied photography in high school and at Loyola Marymount University and continue to study with a variety of select photography educators in the disciplines of aerial, landscape, portraits, and headshots.  I believe it is important to share what I know and give back to the community. I volunteer teach photography to a local middle school sharing my knowledge and helping students develop their own style.

I work with yacht clubs providing editorial photography for regatta’s, opening day events and vintage boat festivals. I have a body of nautical fine art photographs that are available for purchase. I do commission work on request. My equipment includes Nikon professional camera bodies, Nikon lens, CMT Water Housings, , and DJI Aerial Drones.
